A Dog Ear
I find comfort in checking out library books. Not because I love reading, but because I take great pleasure in knowing that someone has felt similar to me, or imagined things I’ve imagined, after reading a page from a given book. It is especially comforting when you find a page worth dog-earing—only to discover that someone had previously dog-eared the same page. The anonymity of this connection gives me faith that great thinking is still very much alive.
